Western France recognises « Petites Cités de Caractère », small towns known for their outstanding character and charm. Piriac-sur-Mer combines lovely old houses with a delightful seaside setting.

Boasting 17th-century architecture is the port of Le Croisic, famous for its pink prawns ; and, trawlermen still bring this delicacy back to port. To see what else lies beneath the waves, visit Océarium, an outstanding aquarium.
Pornic has ancient walls and a castle that guards the two ports. Special to this part of the world are “carrelets”, huts on stilts along the shore. Set into the seabed, 350 these traditional structures are still used for fishing.
